The IRB members are appointed and selected with varying backgrounds of expertise and experience to reflect the diverse research base at HPHC and the community it serves. The composition of the IRB meets the regulatory requirements and reflects organizational requirements. 

The IRB at HPHC is composed of nine members who serve one or more roles as:

• At least one community member who is not employed or affiliated with HPHC and does not have an immediate family member employed or affiliated with HPHC;

• At least one member whose primary interests are in scientific areas;

• At least one member whose primary interests are in non-scientific areas; and

• At least one member who is a physician (required for review of FDA regulated products including drugs, biologics and devices).
